West High went 4-2 and finished runner-up at the Dubuque Hempstead Invite on Saturday falling to Class 4A top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier 21-5, 21-19 in the title game.
Class 5A No. 9 West High lost its opening pool play match to No. 8 Bettendorf 19-21, 21-15, 15-12 before winning four straight matches to reach the title game.
The Women of Troy defeated ADM (21-10, 21-15), Dubuque Senior (21-7, 21-8) and City High (21-11, 21-16) in pool play and downed No. 6 Dubuque Hempstead 13-21, 21-16, 15-11 in the semifinals.
Colby Greene led West High with 40 kills in the tournament while Cailyn Morgan added 28 kills and Maddie Laffey had 24 kills.
Claire Overton had 18 kills on the day and Emily Burtch added 10 as West High moved to 16-9 on the season with its 4-2 performance.
Liberty High went 3-3 at the tournament falling to Clinton in the championship of the Silver (consolation) bracket.
The Lightning went 2-2 in pool play with wins over Davenport West (21-16, 21-19) and Davenport Central (24-22, 21-10) and losses to Clinton (21-19, 16-21, 15-13) and Cedar Rapids Xavier (21-15, 21-11).
Liberty High defeated City High 21-14, 21-13 in the consolation semifinals before falling to Clinton 21-11, 21-12 in the consolation final.
LeeAnn Potter led Liberty with 38 kills and 53 digs on Saturday and added three aces in the six matches.
Olivia Slattery had 27 kills and led Liberty with 12 ace serves and seven ace blocks.
Maya Kerschen added 18 kills and five blocks while Hailey Hested led the Lightning with 88 assists and had 38 digs.
Piper Koski had 39 digs and Addie Schmierer had 33 digs.
Liberty is now 8-15 on the season.
City High went 2-3 on Saturday falling to Liberty in the consolation semifinals.
The Little Hawks dropped to 8-11 on the season.
Clippers Win Dunkerton Tournament
Clear Creek Amana went 5-1 and defeated Class 1A No. 11 Dunkerton twice on its way to the title at the Dunkerton Tournament on Saturday.
The Clippers picked up wins over Waterloo Christian (21-8, 21-6), BCLUW (21-17, 22-20) and Nashua-Plainfield (22-20, 21-18) and lost to Dunkerton (17-21, 21-19, 15-8) during pool play.
Clear Creek Amana then defeated Dunkerton back-to-back times to win the title with wins of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-15, 18-25, 15-13.
The Clippers pulled their season record to 11-11 with the 5-1 performance on Saturday.
