Regina Makes it Two Routs in a Row

SIGOURNEY – Fourth-ranked Regina showed again on Friday why it probably had the most deceiving 0-2 record after the first two weeks of the high school football season.
The Regals scored 35 consecutive points and cruised to a 42-20 victory over Sigourney-Keota in a Class 1A district game in Sigourney.
Senior Isaac Vollstedt rushed for 174 yards and scored three touchdowns on just 13 carries, while senior quarterback Michael Conlon completed 10-of-14 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown.
Cole White led Regina on defense from his defensive end position.
“He was very active and disruptive to Sigourney-Keota’s running game,” Regina coach Marv Cook said of White.
Regina has won back-to-back games in dominant fashion against Class 1A competition after losing to Class 3A powers Cedar Rapids Xavier and Solon by scores of 23-6 and 33-0 in the first two games.
Jake Phillips made a significant contribution for Regina on both sides of the ball with five catches for 86 yards and one rushing touchdown, along with six tackles on defense, including a sack.
Jayden Kies also used his speed to break loose for a 60-yard touchdown reception for Regina, which improved to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in Class 1A, District 4 play.
Sigourney-Keota dropped to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in district play.
Regina returns home to face Highland (1-3) next Friday.
