Cross Country Roundup: Top-Ranked Nock Leads West High at Loaded Heartland Invite

For the third time this month West High senior Bailey Nock put her number one ranking on the line against a loaded field that included the state’s second ranked runner.
On Saturday Nock showed once again exactly why she is atop the Class 4A rankings.
Nock won the individual title at the 12th Heartland Classic Cross Country Invite on Saturday to remain unbeaten against Iowa competition this season.
The defending 4A state champion, Nock was the only runner to break the 19-minute mark on Saturday the Iowa State Cross Country Course winning the individual title in a time of 18:51.9.
Nock finished better than 13 seconds in front of runner-up Olivia Sovereign of St. Thomas Aquinas, Missouri and more than 23 in front of second-ranked Linn-Mar freshman Micah Poellet.
The individual title by Nock helped West High to a third-place team finish at the 26-team meet.
Class 4A top-ranked Johnston won the team title with 108 points while No. 2 West Des Moines Dowling was second with 119 points.
Third-ranked West High was third with 123 points while Lincoln Southwest, Nebraska was fourth with 184, Waukee was fifth with 201 and City High was sixth with 251.
Nock led three West High runners that finished in the top 20.
Senior Colleen Bloeser was 11th in a time of 19:49.4 while freshman Kiara Malloy-Salgado was 20th in 20:13.9.
City High was led by Esti Brady who placed 25th in a time of 20:28.9.
The Little Hawks had three other runs in the top 56 as Kinsee Brands finished 51st in 20:54.8, Amelia Morrow was 54th in 20:57.9 and Anna Lindower was 56th in 20:58.6.
In the boys race, Kolby Greiner finished ninth in 16:15.6 to lead West High to a 15th place finish with 396 points.
Edina, Minnesota won the team title with 84 as the top three teams were all from outside of Iowa.
Top-ranked West Des Moines Dowling was the top finishing in-state team, placing fourth with 178 points.
City High had a pair of runners in the top 50 and finished 13th with 388 points.
Robbie Strang finished 46th in 17:14.8 and Quenton Max was 50th in 17:17.8 to lead the Little Hawks.
West Des Moines Dowling senior Matthew Carmody won the individual title 15:42.9.
