Volleyball Roundup: West High Finishes Runner-up At Carolina Found Extravaganza

West High finished runner-up at its own Caroline Found Volleyball Extravaganza on Saturday falling to Class 3A eighth-ranked Waterloo Columbus in the title game.
Class 5A ninth-ranked West High improved to 12-5 with its 5-1 performance at its home invite on Saturday its only loss a 17-25, 25-17, 15-12 title-match setback to Waterloo Columbus.
Clear Creek Amana went 1-3 on Saturday while Liberty High went 2-3, closing with back-to-back victories to win the consolation bracket.
West High defeated Mediapolis (21-12, 21-11), Cedar Rapids Washington (21-12, 21-16) and Waterloo Columbus (21-17, 15-21, 15-10) in pool play.
West High downed Clear Creek Amana 25-15, 25-14 in the quarterfinals and 3A No. 7 Dyersville Beckman 25-13, 26-24 in the semifinals before dropping the title match to Waterloo Columbus.
Clear Creek Amana defeated 5A No. 11 Ankeny (21-18, 21-19) and lost to 4A No. 2 Dubuque Wahlert (21-13, 21-14) and Dyersville Beckman (21-14, 14-21, 15-10) in pool play before its quarterfinal loss to West.
Shauntina Williams led the Clippers with seven kills in the win over Ankeny while Zoey Boehme had 10 assists and Kelsey Lipkea added 12 digs.
Karsyn Stratton had three kills in the loss to Dubuque Wahlert while Jorday Neely and Carsyn Gallagher each had five digs.
Williams had 10 kills in the three-set loss to Dyersville Beckman, Boehme had 13 assists and Neely 12 digs.
In the quarterfinal loss to West High, Williams had a team-high five kills and Boehme had six assists and Neely even digs.
Clear Creek Amana dropped to 6-8 on the season with the 1-3 performance on Saturday.
Liberty opened the day with pool play loss to 3A No. 9 Mount Vernon (21-10, 21-13), 5A No. 8 West Des Moines Dowling (21-7, 21-4) and 2A No. 10 Pella Christian 17-21, 21-19, 15-10) but rebounded to down Cedar Rapids Washington (25-20, 25-23) and Pella Christian (25-20, 23-25, 15-13) in pool play.
Liberty is now 4-8 on the season.
Regina Wins Nike Invite
Regina went 4-0 on its way to claiming the title at the Nike Volleyball Invite on Saturday in West Burlington.
Class 2A No. 15 Regina earned wins over Fairfield (17-21, 21-11, 15-12), Louisa-Muscatine (21-10, 21-6) and Keokuk (21-3, 21-11) in pool play and defeated Pekin 21-16, 21-10 in the title match.
Regina improved to 14-3 on the season and has now won its last six matches.
Alex Wiese had 29 kills in four matches to lead Regina while Alexa Lehman had 19 kills and Katrina Chambliss added 16.
Emily Bonnett had 74 assists and 11 ace serves for the Regals while Clare Dunne had 44 digs and Wiese had 37 digs and five ace serves.
Wiese led Regina with five kills in the title game win over Pekin while Lehman and Chambliss each had four kills in the championship match.
Bonnett had 13 assists and four aces and Wiese and Chambliss each had eight digs in the win over Pekin.
