Independence Snaps Skid With 35-7 Win Over Clear Creek Amana

After struggling through the air in the season opener Clear Creek Amana got its passing game going a little on Friday against Independence.
The Mustangs preferred to do their damage on the ground.
Independence (1-2) rolled up 351 yards on the ground and snapped a 12-game losing streak that dated back to 2015 with a 35-7 win over Clear Creek Amana in a non-district contest between WAMAC foes in Independence.
Senior quarterback Ethan Postler passed for 251 yards, with 108 going to Darius Moore who made his season debut but it wasn’t enough as the Clippers dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Independence had three players eclipse the 100-yard mark on the ground and finished with 443 yards of total offense in its first win since a 21-0 victory over Maquoketa on Oct. 23 2015.
Sophomore quarterback Logan Schmitt carried 30 times for 119 and a touchdown and also threw for 57 yards and a score.
Seth House ran for 101 yards on 14 carries while Noah Gall rush for 135 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.
Clear Creek Amana stopped the Mustangs on the opening possession of the game but fumbled on its first offensive play.
The Clippers came up empty on three trips inside the Mustang 20 yard line while being held to seven points for the second week in a row.
Postler completed 22-of-35 passes for 251 yards in his second start with Moore hauling in eight passes for 108 yards.
Matt Brimeyer rushed for 66 yards to lead Clear Creek Amana while Cade Gallagher ran for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Tanner Cochran led the defensive effort for the Clippers finishing with 2.5 tackles for loss and six solo stops among his 8.5 tackles.
Ty Wright added two tackles for loss for the Clippers.
Clear Creek Amana travels to Dubuque Wahlert (0-2) next Friday for its district opener.
