Luke Ira did a little bit of everything for Solon this season.

More accurately the junior shortstop did a lot of everything for the Spartans.

Ira led Solon in nine offensive categories on his way to being named a Class 3A first-team all-state pick by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association on Monday.

A South Dakota State commit, Ira led Class 3A and ranked third in the state with 71 hits and his .511 batting average ranked ninth in the state.

Ira also led Solon in runs (54), doubles (14), home runs (6), RBI (39), stolen bases (17), on-base percentage (.574) and slugging percentage (.770).

Ira was one of eight area players to earn all-state honors from the IHSBCA on Tuesday and joined West High seniors Izaya Ono-Fullard and Connor McCaffery and Regina juniors Ryne Schooley and Blake Berns as first-team picks.

Ono-Fullard and McCaffery were both first-team picks in Class 4A after helping West High (32-9) return to the state semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.

McCaffery was named to the 4A first team as an outfielder after hitting .385 with 11 doubles, six home runs and 49 RBI.

The Iowa recruit also drew a team-high 33 walks.

Ono-Fullard had one of the best seasons in the state this summer leading all preps with 11 home runs and ranking second in 4A with 60 RBI.

The third baseman hit a team-high .421 and led West High in runs (49), hits (59), doubles (16) and slugging percentage (.771).

Junior pitcher Braden Houston and sophomore outfielder Jason Strunk were both second-team picks for West High.

Houston posted a 9-1 record with a .89 ERA in 63 innings.

The right-hander allowed just 46 hits and 20 walks while striking out 60.

Strunk hit .350 with five home runs and 25 RBI for the Trojans.     

Schooley and Berns were big parts of helping Regina (28-8) return to the 2A state tournament for the first time since 2014.

Berns hit .374 and scored 30 runs while leading Regina with six home runs and 44 RBI on his way to earning first-team all-state honors as an outfielder.

Schooley was a first-team pick as a pitcher after posting a 7-1 record and 2.24 ERA.

The junior lefty allowed 28 hits and 27 walks while striking out 85 in 56 1/3 innings.
