Regina’s Schooley Named to River Valley Conference Elite Team

Regina had seven players earn all-conference honors when the River Valley conference announced its postseason baseball awards.
Juniors Ryne Schooley, Trent Hoogerwerf, Nick Brandt, Ryan Schott, Blake Berns, Mitch Gahan and Evan Suchomel all picked up all-conference awards after helping the Class 2A state semifinalist Regals to a 28-8 record that included a 15-2 mark in RVC play.
West Branch had a pair of freshman earn postseason honors in Trey Eagle and Tanner Lukavsky.
Schooley headlined the Regina all-conference contingent as the junior was named to the 17-member RVC Elite Team that consists of the top player from both the North and South Division.
A utility pick on the Elite Team, Schooley was 7-1 with a 2.24 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings on the mound and also hit .361 with 23 RBI.
Hoogerwerf, Brandt, Schott, Berns and Gahan were all named to the South Division team.
Brandt and Schott were both selected to the South Division squad as pitchers while Hoogerwerf was honored as a catcher, Berns as an outfield and Gahan as a utility player.
Hoogerwerf led Regina with a .383 batting average and 11 doubles and drove in 26 runs while Berns hit .374 and posted team-highs with six home runs and 44 RBI.
Gahan hit .250 and scored 30 runs and also went 5-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 54 innings.
Brandt posted a 6-1 record and 1.43 ERA in 54 innings while Schott was 4-0 with a 2.19 ERA in 32 innings.
Suchomel was an honorable mention pick for Regina.
Lukavsky as a freshman on his way to being named to the South Division team as an infielder.
The shortstop led West Branch with 16 runs and also drove in 10 runs and had a 2-1 record and 2.66 ERA in 29 innings.
Eagle was an honorable mention pick for the Bears.
