City High, West High Haul In MVC Baseball Honors

City High and West High were the Mississippi Valley Conference regular season winners, each securing a divisional title.
Both programs continued that winning when the conference announced its postseason awards on Friday.
West High had six players earn first-team honors and City High put three players on the MVC all-divisional teams that were released by the conference on Friday.
In addition, City High coach Brian Mitchell and West High coach Charlie Stumpff earned divisional coach of the year honors.
West High had five unanimous selections among its six first-team honorees as Braden Houston, Jason Strunk, Nate Disterhoft, Izaya Ono-Fullard and Connor McCaffery were all named unanimously named to the Mississippi Division first team for West High.
Tony Comellas was the other Trojan to earn first-team honors.
Brett McCleary and Caleb Sass headlined the City High first-team picks as unanimous selections in the Valley Division and were joined by Zach Stone on the first team.
Houston was a first-team selection at pitcher after posting an 8-1 record with a .97 ERA this season.
The junior right-hander struck out 52 and walked 18 in a team-high 58 innings.
Another junior, Comellas was the first-team catcher in the Mississippi Division after hitting .321 with seven home runs and 28 RBI.
One of two underclassmen on the Mississippi Division first team, Strunk was a first-teamer as an outfielder after hitting .351 with five home runs and 25 RBI.
Seniors McCaffery, Disterhoft and Ono-Fullard round out the Trojans first-team picks.
The trio was a big part of a lineup that leads 4A in runs per game and batting average and helped the Trojans to a 31-8 record and fourth consecutive state tournament appearance.
Ono-Fullard led West High in batting average (.425), home runs (10), RBI (58) and runs (48) on his way to first time honors as an infielder.
Disterhoft was the first-team pick at first base after hitting .396 and scoring 34 runs from his leadoff spot. He drove in 24 runs and stole a team-high 25 bases.
McCaffery was a first-team utility pick after hitting .397 with six home runs and 48 RBI and posting a 6-1 record and 1.75 ERA in 32 innings pitched.
Junior pitcher Jack Wilson and senior outfielder Logan Sims were both second-team picks for West High while Stumpff was selected as Mississippi Division coach of the year after directing the Trojans to an overall MVC best conference mark of 20-6.
In the Valley Division, McCleary was a first-team pick as a pitcher following a senior season in which he posted a 5-3 record and 1.33 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings.
McCleary also hit .331 and led the Little Hawks with six home runs and 47 RBI.
A senior shortstop, Sass was a first-team infield selection after leading City High in batting average (.422), runs (58) and stolen bases (27).
Stone was a first-team utility pick after hitting .382 with four home runs and 40 RBI for City High.
Junior Travis Reyhons and senior Dylan Deshler were both second-team picks for City High while Mitchell was named Valley Division coach of the year after leading the Little Hawks to their first conference crown since 2006.
