Softball Roundup: Clear Creek Amana Closes Regular Season With Back-to-back Wins

Clear Creek Amana will head into the postseason with some momentum.
The Clippers made sure of that on Saturday.
Clear Creek Amana won a pair of games at the Mid-Prairie tournament in Kalona defeating host Mid-Prairie 9-8 in six innings and downing Class 5A No. 14 Dubuque Hempstead 2-1.
The Clippers improved to 14-26 with the win and will open regional play on Thursday against North Scott in Eldridge at 7 p.m.
Freshman Raina Henze picked up the win against Dubuque Hempstead, allowing one unearned run on seven hits in a complete game.
Henze struck out two and didn’t walk a batter in the win.
Abby Kinnaird went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and scored both Clear Creek Amana runs.
Danielle Wnek had a hit and drove in a run and Katie Pitlick and Lydia Banwart each added singles.
Clear Creek Amana used a five-run fifth inning to tie the game with Mid-Prairie and scored two runs using the international tie-breaker and held on for a 9-8 win.
Eighth-grader Peyton Grafft earned the win in relief of Henze, allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits in three innings.
Ainsley Schrock went 3-for-4 and drove in a run and Karsyn Stratton went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Clippers.
Wnek was 2-for-3 with a double and a run and Anna Fox had a hit, scred a run and drove in a run.

Solon Gets Win at Ottumwa Tournament
Solon closed the regular season with a 12-3 win over Roland-Story on Saturday at the Ottumwa Tournament.
Class 3A seventh-ranked Solon went 1-2 at the two-day tournament falling to 4A No. 2 Fairfield 11-7 and 5A No. 15 Southeast Polk 5-1 on Friday.
Solon scored 10 runs in the first in in its win over Roland-Story on Saturday and improved to 27-12 on the season.
Kayla West earned the win allowing three unearned runs on three hits in three innings. McKenna Miller allowed two hits in four scoreless innings of relief.
Miller went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI and Madison Rogers went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Jess Heick was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBI and Tara Lance had two hits and scored a run.
Bryn Hanrahan and Taylor Ryan each had a hit and scored twice.
