Baseball Roundup: West High Closes in on Divisional Title With Sweep of Linn-Mar

West High took a big step toward a Mississippi Valley Conference divisional title on Friday.
Actually, the Trojans took two steps towards securing the Mississippi Division crown.
Class 4A third-ranked West High ran its MVC winning streak to nine with a sweep of Linn-Mar in a Mississippi Division doubleheader in Iowa City.
West High won the opener 2-0 and took the nightcap 10-2 while improving to 24-7 on the season and 17-5 in MVC play.
Linn-Mar dropped to 14-16 and 8-12 in conference play.
The Trojans now have a two-game lead in the loss column over both Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Dubuque Wahlert in the Mississippi Division standings.
Jack Wilson worked six strong innings to earn the win in the opener.
Wilson allowed five hits and struck out six in six shutout innings while Austin West worked a scoreless seventh to earn the save.
Connor McCaffery had a solo home run in the third and Logan Sims and Braden Houston each added a hit for West High.
Nate Disterhoft scored a run and Izaya Ono-Fullard drove in a run in the win.
Braden Houston picked up the win in game two, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in five innings.
Houston struck out four and walked two while improving to 5-1 on the season.
Ono-Fullard went 2-for-3 with a home run and six RBI to pace West High in the nightcap.
McCaffery went 2-for-4 and Logan Sims and Jason Strunk each had two hits and scored a run.
Teagen Bell was 2-for-4 and scored two runs and Dane Randall and Disterhoft each went 1-for-2 and scored twice.

City High Splits Wild Doubleheader With Cedar Rapids Jefferson
City High and Cedar Rapids Jefferson took turns rallying for come-from-behind wins on Friday and result was the two teams splitting a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Mercer Park in Iowa City.
Jefferson scored four runs in the seventh inning to earn a 9-7 win in the opener and City High overcame a nine-run first-inning deficit in a 20-10 win in the nightcap.
Class 4A fourth-ranked City High moved to 23-9 on the season and 16-6 in MVC play while Jefferson moved to 17-12 and 13-7 in conference contests.
City High built a 5-0 lead in the first two innings of the opener but couldn’t hold on.
Caleb Sass went 2-for-3 with a run and Cole Milder was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI to lead City High.
Zach Stone had two hits and an RBI and Brett McCleary had a hit and drove in two runs in the opener.
It was City High’s turn to come from behind in the nightcap.
Jefferson scored nine runs in the first inning but City High scored seven in the second and eight in the third while putting up a season-high 20 runs.
Stone had a double and home run among his three hits and drove in three runs while McCleary had a hit and four RBI for the Little Hawks.
Sass went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, Travis Reyhons was 2-for-5 with two runs and Milder was 1-for-2 with two runs and three RBI.
Joey Schnoebelen had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs and Jacob Dykes was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
Quenton Max picked up the win in relief, allowing three runs on 10 hits while striking out three in 5 2/3 innings.

Clear Creek Amana Stretches Winning Streak to Six
A little more than a week ago Clear Creek Amana was in the middle of a season-long six-game losing streak.
On Friday, the Clippers improved their season-best winning streak to six in a row.
Clear Creek Amana swept Anamosa in a WAMAC cross-divisional doubleheader in Anamosa winning the opener 13-4 and taking the nightcap 10-6 in eight innings.
The Clippers improved to 13-17 with the sweep and moved to 12-11 in WAMAC play while Anamosa dropped to 1-28.
Clear Creek Amana snapped its six-game skid with a 9-2 win over Dyersville Beckman on June 22 has six of seven since.
Kobey Schlotman went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and three RBI to pace Clear Creek Amana in the opener.
Eighth-grader TJ Bollers went 2-for-5 with a double and his first career home run and drove in five runs.
Cody Ogden drove in two runs and Sam Stevens scored two runs for Clear Creek Amana.
Grant Jensen earned the win working 3 2/3 innings of two-hit relief, striking out five without a walk.
Clear Creek Amana exploded for five runs in the eighth inning in a 10-6 win in the nightcap.
Camden Smyka earned the win in relief allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Smyka struck out five and walked four and also went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
Bollers led the Clippers at the plate going 3-for-4 while Donovan Wildman was 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
David Jensen went 2-for-5 and scored two runs and Schlotman had a double and drove in two runs.
