Baseball Roundup: Solon Bounces Back with Win Over Benton Community

Payton Bandy homered and drove in four runs to help Solon bounce back from a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Western Dubuque on Monday with an 11-1 six-inning win over Benton Community on Wednesday.
Solon improved to 18-10 on the season and 16-6 in WAMAC play with the win in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader thought the second game was postponed by rain.
Freshman Cam Miller earned the win for Solon allowing one run on six hits in 4 2/3 innings to improve his season record to 5-0.
Miller struck out four and walked two in the win and Trevor Shuchmann worked the final 1 1/3 innings without allowing a hit.
Zach Wegmann had three hits including two doubles and scored three runs for Solon as the Spartans banged out 12 hits.
Luke Ira was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI and Spencer Wegmann had two hits and drove in a run.
Adam Bock had a hit and drove in two runs while Tyler Linderbaum had a hit and scored twice.

Clippers Stretch Winning Streak to Four
Clear Creek Amana stretched its winning streak to a season-best four in a row with a weather-delayed sweep of Maquoketa on Wednesday in a WAMAC Conference doubleheader in Tiffin.
The Clippers won the opener 5-0 and took the nightcap 3-2 to improve to 11-17 on the season while Maquoketa dropped to 2-28.
Kobey Schlotman struck out eight in a five-hit shutout in the opener that was delayed for an hour and 20 minutes by lightning in the sixth inning.
Camden Armstrong had a hit and drove in two runs while Cody Ogden had a double and an RBI.
TJ Bollers had a double and scored a run with a steal of home.
Armstrong earned the win in game two, allowing two unearned runs on three hits in a complete game.
Armstrong struck out seven and walked one in the win.
Ogden and Schlotman each had a hit and an RBI in the win while Bollers added a hit and David Jensen scored a run for the Clippers.

West High Has Winning Streak Stopped With Loss To Muscatine
West High had a seven-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 6-3 rain-shortened loss to Muscatine in a non-conference contest in Iowa City.
Class 4A third-ranked West High (23-7) managed just one hit in the game shortened to six innings by rain while losing for just the second time in its last 12 games.
Seven walks and seven stolen bases helped West High score three runs but it wasn’t enough as Muscatine banged out 10 hits off four different West High pitchers.
Tony Comellas took the loss for the Trojans allowing three runs on four hits in three innings while walking three and striking out one.
Izaya Ono-Fullard had the only hit for West High while Jason Strunk walked twice, stole four bases and scored two runs.
Alex Granner drew a pair of walks and scored a run.
