City High didn’t have to wait long to get back on track.
After having a nine-game winning streak end with a rain-shortened 1-0 loss to Cedar Rapids Washington on Wednesday Class 4A fifth-ranked City High swept Dubuque Senior (15-9, 9-7) in a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division doubleheader in Dubuque on Friday.
City High won the opener 10-4 and took the nightcap 12-8 to improve to 21-6 on the season and 14-3 in MVC play.
The Little Hawks continue to lead the Valley Division with nine conference games remaining.
Riley Regennitter picked up the win in the opener allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four in four innings.
Travis Reyhons had four hits and Caleb Sass and Joey Schnoebelen each had three to lead a 13-hit City High attack.
Sass had a double and a home run among his three hits while Reyhons had a triple and drove in two runs and Schnoebelen had two RBI and scored two runs.
Bryce Frantz had two hits and scored two runs for the Little Hawks.
City High rallied from a 7-1 first-inning deficit in game two, scoring three runs in the second third and sixth innings to secure the sweep.
Jacob Dykes earned the win, working 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
Brett McCleary went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while Sass had a pair of doubles and scored twice in the nightcap.
Zach Stone had two hits and drove in a run while Dylan Deshler had a hit, scored twice and drove in two runs.

West High Sweeps Hempstead to Set Up Showdown With Wahlert
With a home sweep of Dubuque Hempstead on Friday West High surged to the top of the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division standings.
The Trojans will travel to Dubuque on Monday in attempt to stay in the Mississippi Division driver’s seat.
West High cruised to a sweep and into first place on Friday winning the opener 13-1 in five innings and taking the nightcap 9-0 over Hempstead (9-16, 7-10).
Class 4A No. 4 West High improved to 21-6 on the season and 13-5 in MVC play and will travel to 3A No. 10 Dubuque Wahlert (17-9, 11-5) for a meeting of Mississippi Division contenders on Monday.
It was all Trojans from the outset on Friday.
Connor Greer got the win in the five-inning opener, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four in four innings.
Logan Sims, Izaya Ono-Fullard and Nate Disterhoft all had two hits as West High pounded 11 hits in the opener.
Jason Strunk and Connor McCaffery both homered in game one as West High scored double digits runs for the third straight game.
Ono-Fullard had a double and drove in two runs while Disterhoft, Sims and McCafery all had two RBI.
West High didn’t let up in the nightcap, pounding nine hits led by three from Strunk who finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle.
Strunk drove in three runs while Disterhoft drove in two and also stole two bases.

Brandt Tosses 1-hit shutout as Regina Wins Third Straight
Nick Brandt tossed a one-hit shutout as Class 2A No. 10 Regina defeated Burlington Notre Dame 10-0 in five innings in a non-conference contest on Friday at Regina.
Brandt struck out two and walked two in the win as Regina improved to 17-6 on the season with its third straight win.
The one-hitter by Brandt on Friday was the third straight stellar outing by the Regina pitching staff that allowed one run and seven hits in 23 innings this week.
Ryne Schooley went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Regina offensive attack while Mitch Gahan had a double, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Jayden Kies, Ryan Schott and Trent Hoogerwerf all had hits and drove in runs for Regina.
