Area Well Represented on Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State Teams

The Iowa City area has long been regarded as a hotbed for soccer talent in the state of Iowa.
This year’s senior class in and around Iowa City was among the best in recent memory for individual talent.
The Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-state teams released on Monday certainly support that claim.
Six area players landed on all-state first teams, a list that included five division I signees, the top scorer in both Class 1A and 3A and the assist leader in Class 3A.
The senior duo of Regan Steigleder and Emma Cooper headline the list of all-state picks after leading West High to a 19-2 record and the semifinals of the Class 3A state tournament.
Cooper and Steigleder were named to the Class 3A first team for the third consecutive season after earning second-team honors as freshman in 2014.
A Northwestern recruit, Steigleder led Class 3A with 37 goals this season and finished her career with 92 goals and 28 assists.
Cooper, who will play collegiately at Michigan, had 27 goals and a 3A best 21 assists this season and closed her career with 89 goals and 42 assists.
West High senior defender Lexi Shaffer was named to the Class 3A second team.
City High senior Grace Brown was named to the IGCA Class 3A first team for the first time in her career after she helped the Little Hawks to a 12-6 record and a spot in the 3A regional finals.
A Nebraska recruit, Brown ranked second on the team with eight goals and added two assists from her defender position.
Clear Creek Amana had a pair of players named to the Class 2A first team in seniors Hannah Bormann and Sarah Johnson.
Johnson was named to the IGCA first team for the first time in her career after a senior season in which she made 76 saves and posted five shutouts to help the Clippers to a 14-4 record.
Bormann capped a brilliant career by earning first-team all-state honors for the fourth consecutive season.
The Drake recruit had 28 goals and eight assists this season and closed her career as the all-time scoring and assist leader in program history.
Bormann ranked fourth in 2A in scoring this season and closed her career with 124 goals.
Solon senior Josie Durr capper her incredible prep career as one of the top goal scorers in state history.
Despite missing the final three games of the season with an injury, Durr finished second in the state with 62 goals and was named to the Class 1A first team for the fourth consecutive season.
The Iowa recruit set school records for goals in a game (9), career (170) and season (62) while helping Solon to an 11-8 record.
