State Champions West High, Regina Put Two Each on All-State First Team

West High and Regina each added to their recent state tournament success last week claiming their sixth titles in the past nine seasons.
On Monday both teams had players honored for helped lead their teams back to the top of their respective classes.
West High seniors Zach Frisbie and Alex Andersen and Regina senior Sam Stein and junior Nick Pechous were all named first team all-state selections by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association on Monday.
The West High and Regina duos joined Clear Creek Amana senior Trey Godbolt and Solon senior Ben Carr as area first team all-state picks.
A senior forward, Andersen led West High with 23 goals and 13 assists this season while Frisbie posted 11 shutouts in goal and allowed 20 goals this season.
City High senior keeper Sam Tomek was a second team all-state pick after allowing 14 goals and posting nine shutouts this season.
Junior midfielder Jonah Dancer was also a second team selection for City High after leading the Little Hawks with nine goals and adding four assists.
Regina outscored opponents 5-0 on its way to its sixth 1A title in nine seasons and first since 2014.
A senior defender, Stein helped lead a Regina defense that didn’t allow a goal at state in wins against the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 ranked teams.
Pechous led Regina (16-5) with 21 goals and seven assists this season and had three goals in the Regals’ state tournament run.
Solon (16-6) had three players earn all-state honors after returning to the state tournament for the first time since 2012.
A senior forward, Carr was a first team pick after scoring 12 goals and leading the Spartans with 12 assists.
Junior midfielder Isaac Vang and junior keeper Eric Weetman were both honorable mention picks for Solon.
Vang had 11 goals and four assists on the season while Weetman posted 15 shutouts and allowed 15 goals for the Spartans.
In Class 2A, Godbolt was a first team pick for the second straight season.
A senior defender, Godbolt helped Clear Creek Amana to an 11-7 record and a spot in the 2A substate final.
Behind the play of Godbolt the Clippers allowed just 13 goals on the season.
Teammate Ian McDonald was a second team pick in Class 2A after allowing 12 goals and making 68 saves in goal for the Clippers.
