Softball Roundup: West Branch Goes 1-1; Regina 0-2 on Opening Day of Tournaments

West Branch went 1-1 on the opening day of the Jesup tournament on Friday defeating North Fayette Valley 14-3 and falling to 5A No. 11 Dubuque Hempstead 13-1.
The Bears moved to 7-9 on the season with its 1-1 performance on Friday.
Against Dubuque Hempstead, Dalana Kron was 2-for-2 and Taylor Thein went 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI.
Eighth graders Maddy Hatfield and Bailey Donohoe each hit the first home runs of their careers in the 14-3 win over North Fayette Valley.
Hatfield was 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run while Donohoe added a 3-run homer.
Eight different Bears had a hit in the win and Hannah Tisinger earned the win, striking out four in 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Regina Drops Two Games to 5A Competition in Cedar Rapids
Regina dropped a pair of games to Class 5A competition Friday on the opening day of the Cedar Rapids Jefferson Tournament.
Class 2A sixth-ranked Regina fell to Southeast Polk 10-4 in its opener on Friday and dropped an 8-3 decision to 5A No. 4 Urbandale in its second game in Cedar Rapids.
Regina dropped to 10-4 on the season with all four losses coming to opponents from a larger class.
Emma Corkery had two hits including a double and scored a run in the loss to Southeast Polk.
Paisley Gardner had a home run and drove in two runs while Katie Bracken was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and scored a run.
Gardner was 2-for-3 with an RBI against Urbandale and Bracken was 1-for-1 with a solo home run.
Sarah Lehman had a hit and scored a run and Corkery had a double in the loss to Urbandale.
Bracken took the loss against Urbandale allowing eight runs, three earned on 10 hits while striking out seven in a complete game.
Regina will face 5A second-ranked Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Alburnett on Saturday.
