West High Rolls Past Regina in Cross-town Matchup

The first all-Iowa City matchup of the season was all West High.
Class 4A second-ranked West High knocked off 2A No. 10 Regina 9-1 in a Memorial Day matchup on Monday evening at West High.
Connor McCaffery homered and drove in three runs and Izaya Ono-Fullard had three hits and drove in four as West High (5-0) remained unbeaten.
Regina dropped to 3-2 with its second consecutive loss.
Six different players had hits for West High on Monday as the Trojans scored at least nine runs for the fourth consecutive game.
Teagan Bell had a hit and scored twice and Logan Sims scored twice and drove in a run for West High.
Connor Greer tossed five strong innings to pick up the win for West High before giving way to the bullpen as Aiden Crowley and Clay Warrren each worked hitless innings for relief to close out the win.
Greer allowed one run on five hits while walking two and striking out four in five innings on Monday while moving to 2-0 in the season.
Regina junior Ryne Schooley took the loss, allowing eight runs on seven hits in four innings.
Schooley (0-1) struck out eight and walked three.
Regina struck first with a run in the top of the third as Schooley drew a two-out walked and scored on a RBI double to right center by Trent Hoogerwerf.
West High answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Bell and Sims drew back-to-back walks with one out and scored on a double to center field by Ono-Fullard.
McCaffery plated Ono-Fullard with a single to right to give West High a 3-1 lead.
The Trojans put the game away with five more runs in the fifth, two-come on the first home run for the season for McCaffery.
Ono-Fullard added an RBI double in the five-run fourth inning that put West High up 8-1.
Hoogerwerf went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Regina while Schooley had a hit and scored a run and Ryan Schott had a hit.
West High travels to Cedar Falls for a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Tuesday while Regina hosts Bellevue in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional single game.
