Class 3A third-ranked West High capped its difficult season-opening stretch with a 1-0 overtime win over Ankeny on Saturday in Bettendorf.
Emma Cooper provided the lone score of the match with a game-clinching goal five minutes into the first overtime period off an assist from Regan Steigleder.
The 1-0 win capped a perfect start for West High (4-0) in which the Women of Troy won four games in a span of five days to open the season.
After defeating 3A sixth-ranked Pleasant Valley in the opener West High won matches over 2A top-ranked North Scott, Downers Grove South, Illinois and Ankeny on consecutive days.
Cooper scored a goal in the 12th minute off a Kennedy Hochstedler assist in a 1-0 win over Downers Grove South on Friday.
City High Falls to Union
City High dropped its first match of the season on Saturday falling 2-0 to Union in LaPorte City.
Courtney Powell and Lauren Wagner each had goals for Union (2-0) while Emma Rottinghaus and Jasmyn Bush had assists in the win.
Class 3A No. 14 City High dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
Regina Drops Season Opener
Regina dropped its season opener on Saturday falling 1-0 to Cedar Rapids Washington at Regal Field.
Class 3A second-ranked Regina (0-1) returns to action on Monday at 1A No. 3 Waterloo Columbus.
