The Your Prep Sports wrestling team honors 14 of the top area wrestlers for their performance this season.

The inaugural wrestling team features a pair of two-time state champions and one three-time state champion among eight state medalists.

Solon senior Bryce West, Regina senior Jared Brinkman and West High junior Nelson Brands are the captains of the team.

All three wrestlers added to their title counts at the state meet in Des Moines last week.

West earned his third straight 120-pound title with a 15-5 major decision of Blake Steege of Denver-Tripoli in the 2A title match.

Brands captured his second straight Class 3A state title with an 11-9 win over Cayd Lara in the 152-pound title match.

Brinkman became the first two-time state champ in Regina history with a 5-2 win over Kyler Schott of North Linn in the 1A 285-pound championship.

106 – Hans von Rabenau (24-10), Jr., West High: Earned the first state medal of his career with an eighth-place finish in his second consecutive appearance at the state meet.

113 – Keaton Speicher (26-22), Soph., West High: Earned second-team all-conference honors after finishing with 26 wins.

120 – *Bryce West (57-1), Sr., Solon: Captured a third consecutive state title and tied the state record for career wins with 210 in his final prep season. West ended his career with a 210-3 record and was 162-1 while winning titles the past three seasons.

126 – Drew West (57-2), Sr., Solon: Finished his career 208-4 with his second consecutive state runner-up finish.

132 – Joey Harney (41-12), Jr., City High: Placed second at both the MVC Super Meet and the 3A District meet and went 1-2 in the first state meet appearance of his career.

138 – Ben Carr (42-9), Sr., Solon: Placed third at the 2A state meet with a tech. fall and fall among four state-meet wins.

145 – Alex Kooker (30-16), Sr., City High: Doubled his win total from his junior season while earning second-team MVC all-conference honors.

152 – *Nelson Brands (54-1), Jr., West High: Iowa commit led the state in takedowns and went unbeaten against in-state competition on his way to a second consecutive 3A state title. Brands had just seven matches go the distance this season, finishing with 34 pins.

160 – Carter Rohweder (45-9), Sr., West High: Capped his career with a fifth-place state finish after placing seventh as a junior. Won 83 matches over the past two seasons.

170 – Nick Milder (36-6), Soph., Regina: Claimed second consecutive River Valley Conference title and reached the 1A state meet for the first time. Has won 68 matches the past two seasons.

182 – Brock Hunger (38-9), Sr., City High: Third-year wrestler won a district title to reach the state tournament for the first time, going 1-2 at the state meet.

195 – Jacob Dykes (47-2), Jr., City High: Won 46 consecutive matches to open the season and finished the season with the second most single-season wins in program history en route to a fifth-place finish at the 3A state meet.

220 – Jordain Buckland (32-4), Sr., City High: Collected his first career state medal with a fourth-place finish in Class 3A.

285 – *Jared Brinkman (38-1), Sr., Regina: Went 80-1 over his final two prep season while becoming the first two-time state champion in Regina history with back-to-back Class 1A titles at 285 pounds.
