Girls Basketball Roundup: City High Races Past Burlington in Regional Semifinals

A week off didn’t slow down City High.
In its first game since February 10, fourth-ranked City High raced to a 58-17 halftime lead and cruised to an 81-30 win over Burlington (8-15) in a Class 5A, Region 5 semifinal on Saturday at City High.
The win was the seventh straight for City High and improved the Little Hawks to 21-1 on the season.
Ashley Joens had a game-high 33 points and Aubrey Joens added 13 points for City High.
City High will host ninth-ranked Ankeny Centennial in the Region 5 title game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Clear Creek Amana Ends Season With Loss at No. 6 Cedar Rapids Xavier
Clear Creek Amana stayed afloat for three quarters in its Class 4A Region 4 semifinal tilt with Cedar Rapids Xavier on Saturday.
It was the final quarter that sunk the Clippers.
Clear Creek Amana led sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier by three points at halftime but couldn’t hang on, falling 55-33 in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids Xavier (16-6) outscored Clear Creek Amana 22-5 in the final quarter while advancing to face No. 13 Waverly-Shell Rock in the Region 4 title game.
The loss was the third straight to end the season for Clear Creek Amana which closed the year 13-10.
