The entire season it has been quality over quantity for the Regina wrestling team.
That mantra continued on Saturday.
Regina won three district champions and qualified four of its six district participants for the state meet at the Class 1A, District 8 meet in Wilton.
Ryan Schott, Mason Simpson and Jared Brinkman all claimed district titles on Saturday helping Regina to a third-place team finish.
Regina had 68 points, finishing behind Class 1A top-ranked Lisbon and host Wilton.
Brinkman became the first four-time state qualifier in Regina history on Saturday while Simpson, Schott and sophomore Nick Milder all secured their first ever trips to the state tournament.
The Class 1A state tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The defending Class 1A champion at 285 pounds, Brinkman improved to 34-1 on the season and 76-1 the past two seasons with a pair of first-period pins on Saturday.
Top-ranked Brinkman needed just 45 seconds to pin No. 8 Cory Crawford of WACO in the semifinals.
He secured his fourth straight trip to the state meet with a 26-second pin of Mediapolis sophomore Brennan Breuer.
Brinkman’s title defense will begin with an opening round match against Dike-New Hartford junior Chase Arends (31-9).
Brinkman will be joined by three first-time state meet qualifiers.
Simpson (28-7) reached his first state meet with a 3-1 sudden victory win over Lisbon junior Jake Jennett in the 195-pount title match.
The Regina senior will face Alta-Aurelia sophomore Nick Gaes (35-3) in his state meet opener.
