Class 4A No. 8 Bettendorf (9-2) at 4A No. 1 West High (8-1)

West High steps out of conference on Tuesday for a top-10 matchup with perennial Mississippi Athletic Conference power Bettendorf.

The Bulldogs have won 5 in a row and have only one loss to an in-state team this season, a 56-54 setback at Linn-Mar on December 3.

West won three straight in January by an average of nearly 30 points after ending December with an 80-71 loss to Cedar Rapids Prairie.

With its game against Blue Valley Northwest cancelled by weather, Tuesday’s game will be the first for West High since an 80-59 win over Linn-Mar last Tuesday.

What to Watch

Long-time rivals Regina and Solon meet Saturday in Solon in their annual non-conference contest.

Regina (7-4) had a five-game winning streak end with a 59-44 loss to Class 2A No. 5 Cascade on Saturday, its first loss since Dec. 13.

Solon (6-3) had its own five-game winning streak end after back-to-back losses to ranked teams. 3A No. 4 ended the Spartans’ five-game streak on January 6 and Solon fell to seventh-ranked Mount Vernon on Friday.

Regina has won three straight in the series over Solon including a 56-42 win last season in Iowa City. The last win for Solon came in 2013. 

Keep an Eye On

Since returning to the City High lineup earlier this month Chuck Johnson has been a difference maker for the Little Hawks.

In four games the 6-foot-5 senior is averaging 8.5 points and 11 rebounds and has had double digit rebounds three times.

Johnson had his first double-double of the season last week with 15 points and 16 rebounds in a win over Cedar Rapids Washington.
