Girls Basketball Roundup: City High Offense Bounces Back

Any concerns about the City High offensive going into a slump following Saturday’s season-low scoring output were squelched quickly on Tuesday.
After scoring a season-low 41 points in a win at Keokuk on Saturday second-ranked City High was back to its impressive offensive ways in a 73-35 win over Cedar Rapids Washington in a non-conference matchup of Mississippi Valley Conference rivals in Cedar Rapids.
Ashley Joens had a game-high 29 points and Aubrey Joens added 17 as Class 5A No. 1 City High improved to 12-0 on the season.
City High built a 49-20 halftime lead against Washington (5-7) and never let up.
Kenya Earl added nine points for City High which hosts Cedar Rapids Xavier on Friday.

Top-ranked Regina didn’t waste any time securing its 11th straight victory.
Class 2A No. 1 Regina raced to a 9-0 lead just two minutes into the game and led 35-8 after the opening quarter in an 80-42 win over Durant in a River Valley Conference South Division contest on Tuesday in Iowa City.
The Regals forced 21 Durant turnovers and allowed just 16 field goal attempts in the first half while building a 60-21 halftime lead.
Regina improved to 11-0 on the season and 9-0 in RVC play while Durant dropped to 3-11 and 2-9 in conference games.
It was all Regina especially early on Tuesday.
Regina closed the first quarter on a 17-0 run to take a 35-8 lead after the opening quarter.
The Regals had 16 assists on 22 first-half field goals while taking a 60-21 halftime lead.
Sarah Lehman led Regina with 17 points and six rebounds while Alex Wiese added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Kennedy Wallace was 4-of-8 from 3-point range while scoring a career-high 16 points while Alexa Lehman added a career-high 12 points.
Mary Crompton had 11 points and four assists while Greyson Dumont had four points, five assists, seven steals and four rebounds.

Wilton Holds Off West Branch

West Branch won at Wilton back in November.
On Tuesday Wilton returned the favor holding on for a 52-48 win over West Branch in a River Valley Conference South Division matchup in West Branch.
Wilton improved to 7-6 on the season and 4-6 in RVC play with its fifth win in its last six games.
West Branch had a two-game winning streak snapped with the loss and dropped to 8-5 on the season and 7-5 in RVC play.
Tatum Koenig led West Branch with 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Haley Mullinnix had 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals and Abby Knoop added six points and five rebounds
