Camanche (6-1) at West Branch (4-3)
Two of the top players in the River Valley Conference square off as Camanche senior Dakota Soenksen and Cooper Kabela meet for the only time this season on Monday in West Branch.
Kabela leads the RVC averaging 24.2 points per game while Soenksen is averaging 21.3 points per game and has made 31 3-pointers in seven games.
Camanche is far more than just the Dakota Soenksen show.
Dakota Soenksen is one of four players averaging 12 or more a game for Camanche which ranks eighth in the state averaging 76.6 points per game.
The Indians have scored 102 and 94 points in games this season and are coming off a 75-62 win over third-ranked Northeast on Friday.
West Branch will try to snap a two-game losing skid after dropping road games to Cascade and Regina last week.
What to Watch
City High finally got into the win column with a victory over Burlington on Saturday. The trick for the Little Hawks now become building on that win.
City High will be attempting to enter 2017 on a two-game winning streak when it travels to Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Tuesday.
The Little Hawks won the only meeting with Cedar Rapids Jefferson last season but the J-Hawks have opened 5-2 after picking up a road win at Cedar Rapids Xavier on Friday.
Keep An Eye On
Devontae Lane got a little bit of a late start on his basketball season after helping West High reach the Class 4A state title game in football.
You would never know by the way Lane has started the season.
Lane is averaging 15.2 points, 4.4 assists, 4 steals and 3.8 rebounds per game to help top-ranked West High open the season 5-0.
The senior guard has scored at least 14 points in every game this season including a season-high 19 points in a win over Dubuque Hempstead.
Rankings Update
There was changes all over the latest Associated Press Class 4A poll but one thing remained the same, West High stayed on top.
The Trojans retained the top spot for the second straight week and are followed by North Scott, Ames, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Sioux City East in the top five.
Other top-ranked teams remained the same as Waverly-Shell Rock (3A), Western Christian (2A) and Gladbrook-Reinbeck (1A) all held onto the top spots.
