Class 5A No. 5 Cedar Falls (2-0) at No. 4 City High (3-0)
The Valley Division race in the Mississippi Valley Conference won’t be decided until 2017 but the winner of Friday’s top-five matchup between City High and Cedar Falls will put itself in the drivers’ seat.

City High opened the season with three straight road wins including MVC victories over Linn-Mar and Kennedy while Cedar Falls defeated Dubuque Hempstead and Cedar Rapids Washington last week.

The Tigers return four starters from last year’s state semifinal team led by Northern Iowa recruit Kiana Barney.

A 6-foot-1 junior, Barney is averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while 6-foot-3 junior Cynthia Wolfe is adding 15.5 points and 7 rebounds per game.

City High won 58-43 at Cedar Falls last season.

What to Watch

In its only three-game week of December the Regals visit RVC South Division foes Mid-Prairie, West Liberty and Wilton

Keep An Eye On
West High junior Logan Cook has quickly established herself as one of the top players in the MVC.

Cook has scored at least 16 points in three straight games to open the season and is averaging 20.3 points per game for 3-0 West High.

The 6-foot-1 junior forward had 23 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson last Tuesday.

Rankings Update
The top six teams in the Class 5A rankings released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union last Thursday remained the same.

Davenport North, Indianola, West Des Moines Valley, City High and Cedar Falls and Waukee held first at one through six.

West High climbed one spot to seventh in the 5A rankings.

Regina stayed atop the Class 2A rankings followed by Western Christian, Treynor and Central Decatur as the top four went unchanged.

Other top-ranked teams include Springville (1A), Pocahontas Area (3A) and Pella (4A).
