About Dubuque Hempstead: The Mustangs are after their second straight state tournament appearance and fifth in the last six seasons. Dubuque Hempstead was a 5A semifinalist a year ago, knocking off West Des Moines Dowling in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual state champion Ankeny Centennial.
This season the Mustangs have lost nine times to ranked teams but more impressively own seven wins over ranked opponents. Hempstead has wins over 4A top-ranked Pella, 5A third-ranked West Des Moines Valley and 4A No. 3 Marion.
About City High: The Little Hawks opened the season with four straight losses to ranked teams and were 5-8 on September 20. Since that time City High has gone 15-6 and won six games against ranked teams.
City High has faced its own challenging schedule, with all 10 losses coming to ranked teams.
The Little Hawks have their own collection of impressive wins, a list that features five wins over top 10 opponents.
What to watch: The third meeting between these two Mississippi Valley Conference rivals is for all the marbles.
Dubuque Hempstead rallied from a two sets to none deficit to win a 20-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-6 thriller at City High on Sept. 13.
City High got a measure of revenge, mounting its own rally to earn a 17-21, 21-16, 15-11 win in Dubuque on Sept. 24.
Class 4A District 6 Final
No. 9 Bettendorf (20-11) at No. 8 West High (22-14)

Stat Leaders: West High – Emma Norris 225 kills; Colby Greene 200 kills; Maddie Fay 639 assists; Madi Ford 357 digs. Bettendorf – Claire Leonard 255 kills; Kaylin Kuhn 201 kills; Abbey Fromi 376 assists; Jorgie Heimendinger 254 digs.
About Bettendorf: Coming off back-to-back 5A runner-up finishes Bettendorf is seeking its fifth straight state tournament appearance. The Bulldogs are led by senior middle Claire Leonard with 255 kills while senior Kaylin Kuhn has 201 kills.
All but one loss for the Bulldogs this season have come to ranked teams.
About West High: For the second consecutive season, West High is hitting stride at the right time. The Women of Troy knocked off top-ranked Cedar Falls at the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament and swept Muscatine in a Region 6 semifinal.
West High has four players with more than 170 kills this season led by senior Emma Norris with 225.
Junior Colby Greene has 200 kills while seniors Ali Tauchen and Emily Halverson have added 186 and 174 respectively. Senior setter Maddie Fay leads West High with 639 assists.
What to watch: These two have plenty of postseason history with Bettendorf downing West High in the Class 4A quarterfinals each of the past two seasons.
The two teams met earlier this season with Bettendorf winning a 21-19, 19-21, 17-15 decision on Aug. 25. Bettendorf has won eight in a row over West High, a streak that dates back to 2012.
Class 2A District 7 Final
West Branch (21-15) vs. No. 3 Sumner-Fredericksburg (32-5)

When: Tuesday, 7 p.m.
Stat Leaders: West Branch – Abby Knoop 454 kills; Claire Bridges 219 kills; Sophie Nopoulos 424 assists; DaLana Kron 512 digs. Sumner-Fredericksburg – Jaydlin Seehase 374 kills; Becca Pagel 340 kills, 339 digs; Jenna Brandt 866 assists.
About West Branch: The Bears reached the regional final with back-to-back wins over River Valley Conference foes that had beaten them twice during the regular season. West Branch collected four-set wins over both Regina and Wilton (32-5) to move one win away from a fourth consecutive state tournament appearance.
West Branch and Sumner-Fredericks met one time during the regular season with the Cougars with a 21-13, 21-9 decision on Oct. 8 at the Cedar Rapids Prairie tournament.
About Sumner-Fredericksburg: The defending 2A runner-up, Sumner-Fredericksburg is seeking a fifth straight state tournament appearance after advancing to the semifinals each of the past three seasons.
The Cougars enter Tuesday’s district final having won 13 of their last 14 matches, the lone loss in that span coming to 5A No. 12 Johnston.
Sumner-Fredericksburg has not dropped a set against 2A competition this season with its other four losses coming to 3A No. 1 Union, 3A No. 2 Dike-New Hartford twice and 5A No. 1 Cedar Falls.
What to watch: Three of the top hitters in Class 3A will be on display in this one as West Branch senior Abby Knoop battles with the Sumner-Fredericksburg duo of Becca Pagel and Jaydlin Seehase.
Knoop leads 2A and ranks 13th in the state with 454 kills on the season. The Western Illinois commit is averaging better than 4.5 kills per set.
Sumner-Fredericksburg has a pair of talented attackers in Seehase and Pagel.
The 6-foot-1 Seehase is a Northern Iowa recruit and ranks 12th in 2A with 374 kills this season while Pagel has 340 kills this season.
