Melanie Housenga, Lily Ernst and Alleyna Thomas are in for a busy day next Saturday.

The West High trio made sure of that on Saturday at the Class 4A regional swimming meet at Clinton.

Housenga, Ernst and Thomas each qualified for the state swimming and diving meet in two individual events and two relays on Saturday to help West High to a third-place regional team finish.

West High qualified eight events and City High qualified six events for the state swimming and diving meet set for Friday and Saturday at the Marshalltown YMCA.

Housenga led the way for West High with a pair of individual regional titles.

The junior won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:11.87 and added a title in the 500 freestyle in 5:11.74.

Thomas finished third in the 200 freestyle and added a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle, qualifying for state in both.

Ernst notched a runner-up finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, to reach the state meet in both events.

All three were part of a pair of state-bound relay teams.

West High finished third in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:41.04 and was also third in 400 freestyle relay in 3:56.3.

City High was led by freshman Carly Wiegel who qualified for state in both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and was a part of the Little Hawks’ state qualifying 200 medley relay team.

Wiegel was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.31 and fourth in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:01.18 and teamed with Laura Lorenger, Devan O’Rourke and Trinity Sadecky to place fourth in the 200 medley relay.

Fellow freshman Trinity Sadecky qualified for state with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:16.24.

Senior Andrea Adam secured a spot in the state diving meet with a fifth-place finish at the regional meet on Thursday at Grinnell College.
